Overview

Qatar Game Jam, January 2025. Seventy-two hours, one theme word revealed at the starting gun: Transform. I entered solo, designed and developed the entire game myself, and our team walked away with the entire podium: first, second, and third. My entry took the top spot.

Morphing Brotherhood is a two-player cooperative game about two brothers trapped in a hostile world, fighting through missions together to escape. The twist that won it: the brothers transform into animals. Dragons take to the air, lions and wolves bring their own ground abilities, and because one brother is elder and one is younger, each transformation carries different sizes and specs. Same creature, two power profiles, built for real cooperation.

The Challenge

A jam gives you no time to think twice. Multiplayer co-op netcode inside 72 hours is already a gamble; layering a full transformation system on top meant every animal needed distinct mechanics, not palette swaps. The dragon had to fly differently from how the lion pounces or the wolf tracks. And the asymmetry between brothers could not feel like a bug; it had to be the design.

The Approach

I built the game in Unity with C#, structuring transformations as ability classes: each animal ships its own movement set, attack kit, and role in co-op. Flight belongs to the dragon alone; lion and wolf split ground control between raw force and speed.

The brother system drives asymmetry. Elder and younger transform into the same creatures at different scales, so size changes reach, health, and power. Players negotiate roles each mission instead of memorizing one build.

Level flow was designed as chained co-op missions toward escape, tuned so neither player can finish alone. Every mechanic serves the same test: can two people cooperate under pressure with three minutes of learning time?

Highlights

  • Designed and developed solo in 72 hours at Qatar Game Jam 2025
  • Theme word Transform translated into core mechanics, not decoration
  • Two-player co-op built on asymmetric brothers: elder vs younger specs per animal
  • Dragon flight, unique lion and wolf ground abilities, more forms beyond
  • Full podium sweep: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place all taken by our entries
  • Story published in Qatar news

The Outcome

Morphing Brotherhood took first while our team claimed every podium spot at Qatar Game Jam 2025, and the win made Qatar's national news. One developer, seventy-two hours, a winning multiplayer game. Deadlines never scared me; now there is proof on a podium.
